Designed in the 3B POOL studio, this adaptive reuse project restores the original use of the Bain Mathieu, a 1930 Montreal swimming pool. The restored bathhouse advocates a radical clarity, opening its mechanical and heating systems to the visitor and using the iconography of the brick chimney for direction and promotion. It challenges the concepts of segregated and private bathing spaces, implementing a single inclusive changeroom and constructing an exterior sauna as advertisement and provocation on the street. At its heart, this project is an argument for an architecture of pleasure, regeneration, and openness.
