Dear Members of the School Community,
This is an update on the work of the Racial Equity and Environmental Justice Task Force
The current composition of the Task Force is Adrian Blackwell (chair), Anne Bordeleau, Elizabeth English, Jane Hutton, Fiona Lim Tung, and Emily Stafford. Anne has reached out to WASA and SWAG, to ask them if they could each select one student representative for the Task Force. We are expecting to have a graduate and undergraduate student join the task force this week.
Last week, the Task Force heard feedback from staff at Tuesday’s Task Force Meeting, and dedicated most of the Wednesday faculty meeting to a discussion of racial equity and environmental justice. We have scheduled a meeting with adjunct faculty for tomorrow--Tuesday June 30, from 5-6pm.
Last Thursday afternoon, we met with the newly formed Racial Equity and Environmental Justice Advisory Board: Joyce Barlow, Michelle Fenton, Omar Ferwati, Jaliya Fonseka, Safira Lakhani, Elsa Lam, Camille Mitchell, Paniz Moayeri, Evan Schilling, Eladia Smoke and William Woodworth / Raweno:kwas.
At this moving meeting, we received both detailed and high-level responses to the Draft proposal for Commitments to Change, pointing toward areas that were overlooked in the document, as well as proposing foundational principles for initiating equity and environmental justice work. We have sent the transcript of this meeting to the board for approval and will be integrating their feedback into draft proposal, alongside input from tomorrow’s adjunct meeting.
Our next step will then be to schedule a meeting with students for discussion and feedback. We will be in touch shortly to schedule this.
